The Edo State Government has ordered the immediate closure of three secondary schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area following intelligence reports of a planned abduction of students in Edo North Senatorial District.
In a circular issued on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, said the decision followed security advisories from the Department of State Services and other agencies warning of credible threats to students, staff and surrounding communities.
The affected schools are Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School. Otamere said all academic and non-academic activities have been suspended until further notice to protect lives and property.
He added that candidates writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination will still be allowed access to examination centres under strict security arrangements. Parents and residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to address the threat.
