The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent spate of food distribution stampedes in Nigeria as a grim reflection of the deepening poverty and despair gripping the nation under President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba lamented the tragic incidents in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which collectively claimed over 60 lives. These tragedies, the party noted, underscore the dire hunger and desperation afflicting many Nigerians.

The PDP extended its condolences to the bereaved families and urged that survivors of the incidents receive urgent medical care. The party further called on Nigerians to hold the APC government accountable for what it termed the “root causes” of the crisis and demanded restitution for the victims and their families.
The opposition’s remarks come amidst growing concerns over the country’s economic challenges, which many fear are pushing millions to the brink.
