FG Prosecutes 1,743 Terrorism Cases Between 2017 and 2024

FG Prosecutes 1,743 Terrorism Cases Between 2017 and 2024

The federal government prosecuted 1,743 terrorism-related cases between 2017 and 2024, according to Mohammed Babadoko, director of public prosecution in the office of the attorney-general of the federation. Addressing journalists in Abuja, Babadoko revealed that 742 individuals were convicted, while 888 were acquitted due to lack of evidence and other factors.

Mr. Babadoko stated that the cases involved terrorism, terrorism financing, and other criminal activities. Convicted offenders received sentences ranging from 60 years to life imprisonment, while 92 trials have been adjourned.

Zakari Mijinyawa, director of legal services at the office of the national security adviser, clarified that the deradicalisation process under ‘Operation Safe Corridor’ is strictly for people cleared by the justice system.

The government reiterated its commitment to prosecuting terrorism cases and ensuring justice through proper legal channels.
