The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has highlighted significant achievements in 2024, including the rescue of 1,581 kidnapped victims. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun announced this on Tuesday during an end-of-year conference with senior police managers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the IGP, the police arrested 30,313 suspects for serious offences, such as kidnapping, murder, rape, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms. The year also saw the recovery of 1,984 firearms, 23,250 rounds of ammunition, and 1,438 stolen vehicles.

Egbetokun cited the rescue of one Nigerian and three Indian nationals in Ogun State on June 30 as an example of their efforts. Despite being ambushed, police safely rescued the victims and neutralised two kidnappers in a follow-up operation.
The IGP also noted progress in combating cybercrime, stating that the NPF has stepped up its enforcement efforts in the digital space, leading to substantial breakthroughs.
