The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, is currently hosting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The talks are focused on strengthening Nigeria-China bilateral relations, with key areas of cooperation including trade, investment, health, technology, and infrastructure development.

In his opening address, Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to building a stronger relationship with China. He also highlighted President Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2024, during which four Memoranda of Understanding were signed, and reiterated the country’s dedication to implementing these agreements.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on his first African visit of the year, noted that the discussions build on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit held last year. He stressed China’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its partnership with Nigeria.

Wang Yi arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday evening, where he was warmly received by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, and other senior officials. During his stay, he will hold high-level talks on global issues, regional security, and economic development.
