The families of victims of the 2018 Offa robbery have filed a lawsuit seeking N2.1 billion in compensation from the Kwara State government. The claimants argue that their relatives were killed during the robbery attack on the Nigeria Police Station in Owode and several banks in Offa on April 5, 2018.
The suit, filed before a high court in Ilorin, accuses the state government of complicity in the robbery, claiming that exhibits recovered from the crime scene were found in the Kwara State Government House during the tenure of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. The claimants also allege that the convicted robbers had confessed to being political thugs linked to Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, and that some of the exhibits, including vehicles branded with Saraki’s name, were used in the attack.

In their claims, the families state that the convicted robbers, including Ayoade Akinnibosun (aka AY), confessed to being politically sponsored by the third (Saraki) and fourth (Ahmed) defendants. They assert that these political connections encouraged the robbers to carry out the crime. The claimants, many of whom lost breadwinners in the attack, are now seeking N1.5 billion in compensation, N500 million for general damages, and N100 million to cover legal costs.
The writ was filed by senior lawyers Johnson Usman (SAN), Yakubu Philemon (SAN), M. Abubakar (SAN), and A. Philip (SAN) on behalf of the complainants, including Abraham Makinde, Lateef Raheem, Adeshina Ayesanmi, and Monsurat Adebayo, who are suing for themselves and their families.
