A medical doctor on duty at Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State was shot during a bandit attack on Tuesday night. Dr Murtala Saleh was injured in the right thigh, while a second victim, Kamala Suleiman, sustained a knee injury. Both individuals are receiving medical care and are in stable condition, according to the police.
The assailants, armed with AK-47 rifles, engaged in a gun battle with police officers stationed in the area. Despite the clash, the criminals succeeded in kidnapping three individuals during the attack. Police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the details of the incident and noted that the victims are receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Aliyu Musa, condemned the “senseless attack on healthcare workers and facilities.” He called for immediate action, ordering the deployment of additional security resources to the hospital and an intensified manhunt for the perpetrators.
This attack is part of a wider pattern of violence in Nigeria’s North-West, where bandit groups continue to target both civilians and critical infrastructure, including healthcare facilities.
