Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari

With just over a week left for budget defense, the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, is appealing for an increase in the agriculture budget. “The agriculture budget is far short of the Maputo 2003 and the Malabo 2014 declarations of the 10% of the national budget. Despite the fact that agriculture development in Nigeria is fast transiting to a business oriented approach driven by massive engagement of youths and women in agribusiness.”

The Minister notes that Nigeria’s agriculture development is shifting towards a business-oriented approach, driven by the significant involvement of youths and women in agribusiness. This new approach underscores the need for increased funding to support the sector’s growth and development.
