The Federal Government has significantly raised the cost of establishing private universities in Nigeria, increasing the processing fee from N5 million to N25 million.
Additionally, the application form fee has been increased from N1 million to N5 million.
The new charges were outlined in a memo issued on Monday by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu.

According to the NUC, the decision is part of broader efforts to enhance the regulation and coordination of private university education in Nigeria. The commission stated that it aims to reposition the sector to better serve the needs of the public.
It further noted that it had identified the need to review guidelines for the establishment of private universities as part of its ongoing reforms.
