Nigeria and Cameroon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening security cooperation along their shared border and in maritime domains.
The agreement was signed in Yaoundé by Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, and the Presidency in Charge of Defence of the Republic of Cameroon, Joseph Assomo, following two days of discussions between defence and security experts from both countries.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Mr Musa said the MoU marked a significant step in deepening bilateral defence cooperation and securing the shared southern border. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the framework covers enhanced operational coordination, intelligence sharing, logistics support, joint training, and personnel exchanges.
It also provides for collaboration in addressing emerging threats across land and maritime domains, including through the Combined Maritime Joint Task Force in the Gulf of Guinea, as well as cooperation in defence technology, innovation, and military production.
