Osun Governor Orders Residents to Avoid Council Secretariats Amid Political Unrest
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to steer clear of local government secretariats following violent clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Security agencies have been deployed to secure the premises as government workers remain on strike. Violence erupted on Monday, with gunshots reported at several council offices. The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that five PDP members lost their lives in the unrest.

The crisis stems from a legal dispute over the status of sacked local government chairpersons and councillors. The PDP contends that a February 10 Court of Appeal ruling in Akure did not reinstate the officials, while the APC insists otherwise. Governor Adeleke maintains that his administration acted in line with a Federal High Court ruling, which declared the 2022 local government election illegal. Security remains on high alert across the state.
