Nigerian Army Cracks Down on Oil Theft in Niger Delta

Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have dismantled 18 illegal refining sites and arrested 17 suspects in a series of operations targeting oil theft in the Niger Delta.

The week-long crackdown, carried out between 17 and 23 February across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta states, also led to the recovery of more than 25,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. Ten boats used for illicit activities were decommissioned.

The acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the division, Danjuma Jonah, confirmed the operation in a statement from Port Harcourt.

Major General Emmanuel Emekah, General Officer Commanding 6 Division, commended the troops and urged them to sustain the momentum, stressing that continued pressure would disrupt the activities of economic saboteurs in the region.
