The Nigerian Army has appointed General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for four newly created divisions following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a major expansion of the Army’s force structure.
The appointments, approved by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, are part of a broader reorganisation aimed at improving operational effectiveness and strengthening security across the country.
The new divisions are headquartered in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo and Benin City, with defined areas of responsibility covering several states. The expansion increases the Army’s divisions from eight to 12 and is expected to be implemented in phases alongside the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel.
The restructuring is intended to enhance the military’s capacity to respond to insurgency, banditry, communal violence and other security challenges across Nigeria.
