Prominent legal expert and former lawmaker, Mr. West Idahosa, SAN, has condemned the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate, despite a subsisting court order barring such action.
Mr Idahosa, who served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007, described the Senate’s decision under President Godswill Akpabio as a troubling disregard for judicial authority. Citing Section 4(8) of the 1999 Constitution, he asserted that legislative actions remain subject to judicial oversight.

He further referenced the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act, noting that courts generally hold that no lawmaker can be suspended for more than 14 days. Mr Idahosa also criticized the process, arguing that the PDP senator was denied a fair hearing and that her suspension appeared premeditated.
