The Senate has expanded its Safe Schools Initiative probe to include TETFund, NELFUND, UBEC, the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, and NSIPA, granting the investigating committee a further three-week extension.
Committee Chairman Orji Uzor Kalu told the Senate that preliminary findings showed the initiative’s funding intersects significantly with these agencies, arguing that investigating it in isolation would produce “fragmented legislative oversight.” The expanded probe will audit TETFund’s school security projects, NELFUND’s disbursement processes, and UBEC’s basic education interventions, alongside humanitarian and social investment spending.
The Senate approved the extension by voice vote. The probe, launched in December 2025 amid the Kebbi schoolgirls’ abduction, has already questioned the disbursement of ₦15 billion released in 2023, with the Nigerian Police Force receiving the largest share, ₦6.225 billion.
