Lagos Unveils Africa’s First Tech/AI-Themed Feature Film ‘Makemation’

The Lagos State government has announced the release of Africa’s first Tech/AI-themed feature film, ‘Makemation’, set to premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on Easter Weekend, April 18, 2025. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.  

‘Makemation’ highlights the growing influence of African youth, particularly girls, in using artificial intelligence and technology to address key societal challenges. The coming-of-age drama follows the journey of a brilliant young girl from a low-income Lagos community as she navigates hardship with determination and innovation.

Blending humour, emotion, and social commentary, the film underscores the power of technology in transforming lives and tackling poverty. It stars renowned Nollywood actors including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and Ali Nuhu.  

Governor Sanwo-Olu described ‘Makemation’ as a celebration of creativity and resilience, reflecting how innovation can drive positive change across Africa.
