The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kogi State, Moses Oricha, has dismissed Wednesday’s state congress, organised by a faction within the party, as illegal and without legitimacy.
Speaking in Lokoja, Mr Oricha described the event as a violation of due process, citing an ongoing legal case on the matter. He insisted that his tenure remains valid until April 2026 and accused those behind the congress of attempting to subvert the party’s leadership.

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for staying away from the gathering, which reportedly saw Ahmed Atta emerge as chairman and Abdulrahman Idris as secretary, alongside other executive members.
Mr Oricha urged the public, security agencies, and INEC to disregard the outcome, alleging that the congress was orchestrated by individuals falsely claiming to be party members.
