The Nigerian Senate has passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio amid ongoing controversy surrounding the upper chamber.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion on Thursday under Orders 40 and 51, stressing the need for clarity, adherence to legislative rules, and a renewed focus on governance. The move follows the recent suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Akpabio of sexual harassment.

The Senate defended its decision in a letter to the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension was unrelated to her allegations but was due to gross misconduct and disregard for Senate rules.
Bamidele clarified that no sexual harassment case had ever been brought before the Senate, adding that disciplinary measures were taken to uphold legislative integrity. He maintained that suspension was a constitutional tool to prevent disorder within the chamber.
