Several people were injured, and multiple houses and business centres burnt following violence in Shimankar community, Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State. The unrest reportedly began during a traditional festival known as ‘Kool Kwateng,’ which was opposed by some youths of another faith, sparking clashes on Sunday night.
The violence caused panic among residents, with women and children fleeing for safety as angry youths set fire to properties. The Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council, Kemi Nshe, confirmed the incident, describing it as a misunderstanding between traditional worshippers and some youths. He commended security agencies for swiftly restoring calm in the area.

Senator Simon Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, condemned the violence, calling for restraint and urging dialogue as the best way to resolve disputes. He praised security agencies and traditional leaders for their prompt intervention and called for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
