39 Constitutional Amendment Bills Scale Second Reading in House of Representatives

Thirty-nine constitutional amendment bills have passed their second reading in the House of Representatives, covering judicial reforms, electoral processes, security, governance, and legislative matters.

Among the proposals is a bill seeking to establish state and local government police forces, aimed at addressing security challenges. Another bill advocates for general elections at all levels—presidential, governorship, legislative, and local government—to be conducted simultaneously, with the date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission in consultation with the National Assembly.

Also under consideration is a bill proposing special legislative seats for persons with disabilities at federal, state, and local government levels.

The amendments, part of broader constitutional reforms, now await further legislative scrutiny before progressing to the next stage of the process.
