House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas will inaugurate an ad hoc committee today to investigate how ₦1.32 billion was allocated to the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council in the 2026 budget, despite the agency having no legal existence.
The committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, will hold its inaugural session and public hearing at the National Assembly, inviting the Ministers of Finance, Budget, and Industry, the Attorney-General, the CBN Governor, EFCC and ICPC chairmen, and the Inspector-General of Police, among others.
But the committee’s decision not to invite Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila or self-styled PFIPC head Adeniyi Adeyemi — the scandal’s two central figures — has drawn criticism from within the panel itself, with one member alleging an “obvious attempt” to shield Gbajabiamila from scrutiny.
The probe follows Adeyemi’s claim that Gbajabiamila demanded a 48% cut of a ₦27.3 billion take-off grant to the agency. Both the Presidency and Gbajabiamila’s office deny the allegations.
