The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn an earlier invitation issued to the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, in connection with the recent killings during the Eid-el-Fitr festivities in the city.
A letter dated 4 April and signed by Commissioner Olajide Ibitoye—on behalf of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Intelligence Department—had initially summoned the Emir to appear at Force Headquarters in Abuja on 8 April for an investigative meeting.

The invitation followed reports that members of a local vigilante group, said to be part of the Emir’s entourage, were attacked and killed during the religious celebration last Sunday.
The Kano State Police Command has since constituted an eight-member panel to probe the circumstances surrounding the deaths. According to police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa, the incident occurred despite a police directive banning durbar activities during the Eid period.
The IGP has ordered the force intelligence department to meet the emir in Kano and obtain his statement on the incident.
