A police statement released on Sunday confirmed the recovery of one pump-action rifle, seven locally made firearms, and 28 live cartridges during the arrest. Further investigation reportedly led officers to a hideout in Omasi, Ayamelum Local Government Area, where two AK-47 rifles and empty magazines were seized.
The arrests are believed to be linked to a kidnapping in Nnewi in July 2024, during which a ransom of ₦17.5 million was paid before the victim was freed.
Police say investigations are continuing.
