Search efforts continue for victims of building collapse in Anambra State

Two people have died and three sustained injuries after a three-storey private hostel collapsed in Amokpala, Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, late Sunday night.

Anambra Emergency Management Agency’s Acting Executive Secretary, Ndidi Omega, said rescue operations concluded for the day with two confirmed dead and three injured, with search efforts resuming Tuesday. The building, Elite Five Star Lodge, served as an off-campus residence for Federal Polytechnic Oko students and non-students alike.

Whether the deceased were enrolled students remains disputed.

Commissioner for Physical Planning Chijioke Ojukwu said preliminary findings point to structural deficiencies the building owner ignored over financial concerns. The site remains sealed as authorities search for the owner and manager, with citywide building integrity tests planned.
