Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern reprimand to commanders of the Police Mobile Force, citing widespread misuse and inappropriate deployment of their personnel.
Speaking during an emergency meeting at Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the police chief declared that officers from the unit would no longer be assigned to protect high-profile individuals, stating that the original purpose of the unit had been compromised.

The move follows public outrage sparked by a viral video showing a Chinese national distributing token cash to Mobile Police officers, a scene widely condemned as demeaning and unprofessional.
The officers involved have since faced internal disciplinary measures, though the specifics remain undisclosed.
Egbetokun’s directive marks a renewed push to reform the elite unit, which was originally established for tactical operations, not personal security duties for the well-connected.
