FG to Power Aso Rock with Solar to Cut ₦47bn Yearly Bill

The Federal Government says it is installing solar panels at the Aso Rock Villa to curb rising electricity bills and promote clean energy.  

The Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Mustapha Abdulahi, revealed that the villa currently spends about ₦47 billion annually on power and that President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦10 billion for a solar grid project.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Abdulahi said the initiative supports the President’s energy diversification agenda and aims to reduce the cost of governance.  

He added that the project will deliver stable power, boost local innovation, and ease pressure on the national grid, with development partners already eyeing $5.3 billion in investments for Nigeria’s power sector.
