The Federal Government has advanced plans to establish the Armed Forces College of Medicine and Health Sciences to train doctors, nurses and other specialised healthcare professionals for the Nigerian military.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the first military medical cadets are expected to be admitted in the 2026 academic session. He announced the inauguration of a Technical Working Group to fast-track the institution’s establishment and coordinate curriculum development, accreditation and military training.
The proposed college is intended to create a dedicated pipeline of healthcare professionals trained for battlefield medicine, emergency response and rehabilitation. Government documents say the institution will operate within the Nigerian Defence Academy framework, with clinical training linked to military hospitals.
Officials say admissions could begin between October and November 2026, subject to completion of accreditation and other requirements.
