The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, is calling for the resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio. This call follows the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold the conviction of Professor Peter Ogban, who was jailed for rigging a senatorial election in Akwa Ibom State in 2019.
In an interview monitored by RadioNow’s news desk, Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Rafsanjani, explains that Ogban’s conviction confirms there was electoral fraud and that anyone who benefited from it, including Senator Akpabio, must also be held accountable.

Rafsanjani argued that Nigeria cannot continue to promote leaders tainted by fraud, saying it sends the wrong message to young people that criminality is a path to power. He added that allowing Akpabio to retain his position despite the court’s ruling undermines electoral integrity and public confidence in democracy.
