The Gates Foundation’s Goalkeepers event in Lagos held on Wednesday, bringing together global health leaders and African policymakers to discuss improved investments, local partnerships, and homegrown artificial intelligence solutions for healthcare on the continent.
While speaking, the Chair of the Gates Foundation, Bill Gates said the foundation has invested $100 billion in African healthcare over 25 years, emphasising the importance of partnership with governments to strengthen health systems. He expressed optimism that global child mortality could be halved in the next 20 years through localised solutions and technology.

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya highlighted his state’s strides in health budgets, infrastructure, and immunisation, noting that biometric tracking of health workers has improved maternal and child health.
On his part, the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote called for an end to medical tourism, advocating for local drug manufacturing and reaffirming the value of the Gates Foundation partnership in achieving this goal.
