The United States has revised its visa reciprocity policy for Nigeria, confirming that most non-immigrant, non-diplomatic visas issued to Nigerian citizens will now be valid for just three months and limited to a single entry.
The change, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the US Embassy in Abuja. However, visas issued before 8 July 2025 will retain their original terms.

Washington says the move follows a global review process aimed at aligning visa conditions with international security and technical standards. These include secure travel documents, better management of visa overstays, and improved information sharing.
While acknowledging progress by Nigerian authorities, the US said discussions are ongoing to address outstanding gaps.
The US Embassy also urged Nigerian travellers to adhere strictly to visa conditions and maintain accurate documentation.
