The World Bank has approved $300 million for a new development drive to ease the displacement crisis in Northern Nigeria, where conflict and insecurity have uprooted over 3.5 million people.
The Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project, known by the acronym ‘SOLID,’ will fund climate-resilient infrastructure, expand essential services, and boost livelihoods in affected areas. Officials say the programme will directly benefit 7.4 million people, including 1.3 million IDPs, through roads, schools, water systems, and health centres.

SOLID marks a shift from emergency relief to long-term planning, building on earlier recovery projects. It aims to reduce tensions in overstretched host communities, strengthen local governance, and promote economic self-reliance.
The World Bank stressed that success will depend on strong federal, state, and local coordination, as well as collaboration with community groups and development partners.
