Kannywood veteran actor Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala has appealed for financial assistance as he continues treatment for cancer, which he says he has battled for nearly two years.
In a video circulating on social media, the actor, best known for his role in the ‘Dadin Kowa’ series on Arewa 24, said he has been on treatment for one year and seven months, but the costs have drained his savings despite support from friends, clerics and colleagues.

Nata’ala revealed that he spends about 250,000 naira every three weeks on injections, while hospital bed fees cost 51,000 naira. He thanked supporters, including clerics, Arewa 24 and Kannywood Vanguard, and also appealed for forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged.
The actor, who hails from Yobe State, began his career in 1986. He is married with three wives and has ten children. He told BBC Hausa in an earlier interview that he had written more film scripts than he featured in as an actor.
