NUPRC Urges Calm in Dangote–Oil Workers Dispute

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, has appealed for dialogue between Dangote Refinery and the country’s two main oil workers’ unions, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, amid rising tensions. Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe urged both sides to resolve their differences peacefully and avoid actions that could disrupt energy supply nationwide.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk on Sunday, Mr. Komolafe stressed that the issues lie within the midstream and downstream sectors but insisted they could be settled through constructive engagement. He emphasised the need for solutions that safeguard national interest.

Mr. Komolafe also highlighted progress in curbing oil theft, noting a sharp decline in losses since 2021. He credited the drop to a mix of regulatory reforms and security strategies, introduced under directives from President Bola Tinubu. According to him, crude oil losses have reduced by about 90 percent in the past four years.
