At least four people, including a police inspector, have been confirmed dead following a multiple-truck collision on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday night. The accident involved several articulated vehicles, including a fuel tanker and a container-laden truck, one of which plunged into the river after veering off the bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said eight casualties were recorded, while several others sustained injuries. The collision caused a massive traffic jam on both sides of the expressway, with emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps and police working to clear the wreckage.

Lagos Police Commissioner Olorundare Jimoh said preliminary investigations indicate the crash resulted from brake failure. He confirmed that the deceased included a police officer and three others, while at least three people were taken to hospital for treatment.
The gridlock extended into the Lagos-bound lane as some motorists drove against traffic, while commercial drivers sharply increased fares. The incident occurred less than 24 hours after another truck crash on Otedola Bridge, raising renewed concerns about road safety on major highways.
