Kwara Targets 60% Female Tech Participation with ‘Girls Code’ Initiative

The Kwara State Government has launched the ‘Girls Code Kwara’ initiative, aiming to achieve 60 per cent female participation in technology and digital innovation. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the scheme during the Kwara Futures Exhibition 2025 in Ilorin, describing it as part of efforts to make the state a global hub for innovation.

The programme will expand to 100 schools and train 10,000 students by mid-2026. It seeks to close the gender gap in technology and encourage girls to pursue careers in science and digital development.

At the exhibition, students showcased projects including weather apps and smart school systems. United Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, emerged overall winner. Officials said the initiative has already trained over 5,600 students across all 16 local government areas, calling digital literacy “the new basic literacy.”
