Plateau Governor Rewards Medal-Winning Athletes with Cash Prizes

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has rewarded athletes who excelled at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with cash prizes in recognition of their achievements. Gold medalists in individual events received ₦1 million, silver ₦750,000, and bronze ₦500,000, while team sport winners were awarded ₦5 million, ₦3 million, and ₦2 million respectively.

Speaking at a reception in Jos, Governor Mutfwang, who described the athletes as true ambassadors and shining examples of Plateau’s resilience, excellence, and winning spirit, added that the state’s investment in sports was paying dividends. Plans to transform the Plateau State Sports Council into a Sports Commission were also announced to attract private investment and enhance athlete welfare.

Athletes and officials praised the governor for timely funding, improved facilities, and transparent administration, signalling a new era for sports in Plateau.
