Katsina Peace Deal Must Not Allow Attacks on Neighbouring States, SLS Warns

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged communities in Katsina State engaging in peace agreements with bandits to ensure such arrangements do not permit attacks on neighbouring areas. He said the agreements must not give gunmen leeway to cross into other states to carry out violence. The Emir made the remarks during a visit to communities recently attacked by bandits in Bagwai and Shanono local government areas of Kano State.

While commiserating with affected residents, Sanusi encouraged them to report suspicious movements to security agencies. He also commended the Kano State Government for what he described as proactive steps to prevent the infiltration of bandits into the state.

Meanwhile, panic spread through Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area after bandits abducted five women, including nursing mothers, on 9 November. Local sources said the attackers arrived in large numbers, fired gunshots into the air and broke into homes before taking the victims away.

Two of the abducted women later regained their freedom under unclear circumstances, while three remain in captivity. The incident occurred a week after a joint military operation reportedly engaged bandits in a gun battle in the area, killing 19 of them.
