Israel Allows Limited UN Aid into Gaza Amid Famine Fears

Israel has permitted five UN aid lorries into Gaza for the first time in 11 weeks, carrying humanitarian supplies including baby food. The decision follows mounting international pressure, particularly from US senators.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the move as temporary and minimal, adding that food deliveries would continue only until Israeli forces and private contractors establish distribution hubs under a US-backed plan rejected by the UN.

The UN’s top humanitarian official welcomed the step but warned it was merely, in his own words, ‘a drop in the ocean’ for the 2.1 million people facing growing starvation in the war-ravaged enclave.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continued across Gaza on Monday, with at least 40 fatalities reported by emergency services. Among the dead were five people at a school sheltering displaced families in Nuseirat.

The Israeli military said it had targeted Hamas fighters operating from a command centre in the area. Ground operations also expanded on Sunday.
