Nigeria climbs three places in latest FIFA ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed three places to 38th in the world in the latest FIFA rankings released on Wednesday. The team also retained its position as the fifth-best side in Africa, despite failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The Eagles missed out on the tournament after losing on penalties to DR Congo in the final of the African playoffs at the weekend, although they had earlier defeated Gabon 4-1 after extra time in the semi-final. DR Congo and Cameroon also maintained their spots in Africa’s top ten.

Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Algeria kept their places as the top four teams on the continent. Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire and Mali followed in sixth, seventh and eighth positions according to the new ranking.
