The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has criticised the recent closure of schools by federal and state authorities in response to rising kidnappings, warning the move could unintentionally advance the objectives of terrorists. At a briefing in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said shutting institutions hands victory to those attacking them, and urged government to pursue a comprehensive security plan rather than what he described as a simplistic measure.
He called for full funding and implementation of the National Policy on Safe Schools, stressing that insecurity is already discouraging education across the country, particularly in the North, where UNICEF reports the highest number of out-of-school children.

Mr. Ememobong criticised what he termed a weak federal response to recent abductions, insisting government must prioritise security or seek help if unable to cope.
