Fire Service Officer Killed in Lagos Traffic Accident

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has confirmed the death of a Federal Fire Service officer in a road accident along the Trade Fair–Abule-Ado service lane. LASTMA says a commercial motorcyclist riding against traffic hit the firefighter as he attempted to cross the expressway. A Shacman truck loaded with sand then ran over him after failing to brake in time.

LASTMA officers quickly secured the scene and alerted the Onireke Police Division, while the truck driver and the fleeing motorcyclist abandoned their vehicles to escape arrest. The victim’s colleagues later evacuated his remains in an official ambulance.

The truck was handed over to the police for investigation. LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condoled with the family and warned road users against dangerous one-way driving.

He said such reckless behaviour causes avoidable tragedies and urged motorists to obey traffic rules as the agency continues enforcing safety across Lagos.
