The Rotary Club of Surulere South has held its maiden Annual Mini Marathon, attracting hundreds of runners in a campaign promoting drug-free living and literacy. The 10-kilometre race, themed “Running Against Drug Abuse, Racing for Literacy,” started at dawn and ended at the Teslim Balogun Stadium with cheers, music and an award ceremony.
President of the club, Faiq Abou, said the marathon was organised to use sports as a tool for social change, stressing that every step taken by participants represented a move away from drug abuse and toward a more informed society.
Professional athletes, fitness groups, families and youths took part in the run through major streets in Surulere, with residents cheering along the route.
