East Africans Dominate Enugu Marathon as Governor Mbah Joins 10km Race

East African athletes swept the podium at the inaugural Enugu City International Marathon, with Kenya’s Shaoline Chepriroi claiming the women’s 42km title in just under 2 hours and 45 minutes to earn the $15,000 top prize. Ethiopia’s Tilahu Birul and fellow Kenyan Rita Busiengy followed in second and third.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State joined the 10km category, finishing the race in a commendable 45 minutes. The marathon, supervised by World Athletics and attended by key figures from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and Nigerian Olympic Committee, drew elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, and Nigeria.

Among Nigerian women, Blessing Shambo led with a fourth-place finish overall, clocking just over 2 hours and 48 minutes and winning N1 million. Charity Agofure and Elizabeth Pam followed, earning N750,000 and N500,000 respectively, in a race seen as a milestone in Nigeria’s athletics calendar.
