House Stalls Constitutional Amendment Debate Over Missing Bill Copies

Rowdy Scenes in House as Lawmakers Clash Over Lagos Trade Fair Land Probe

Debate on proposed constitutional amendments in the House of Representatives has been suspended, after several lawmakers said they had not received copies of the draft bills.

With members divided over whether to proceed, the House leadership postponed the session, further delaying a process that had already been scheduled for consideration this week.

Opposition lawmakers argued they need time to examine the content thoroughly, pointing to significant proposed changes such as state policing, local government reforms, and independent candidacy.

The postponement reflects concerns that hurried passage could undermine the credibility of the constitutional review, prompting calls for wider consultation and full circulation of the documents before debate resumes.
