The House of Representatives erupted into a heated session on Tuesday after lawmakers accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of failing to remit ₦16 trillion in statutory transfers to the federal government. The row broke out over a motion calling for immediate investigation.
Opposition members presented documents alleging gaps in remittances from the CBN’s consolidated revenue, while allies defended the central bank, calling the figures inaccurate. The clash led to shouting, procedural challenges and a forced adjournment of the session.
The House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, ordered the Public Accounts Committee to probe the allegations and summon CBN officials for a detailed explanation.
