Suspected kidnappers of 28 travellers abducted in Plateau State have demanded a ransom of ₦1.5 million for each victim. The passengers were taken on Sunday night in Zak community, Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, while travelling to attend a Maulud celebration in Sabon Layi.
According to relatives, the gunmen ambushed the vehicle, abducted the occupants and abandoned the vehicle at the scene. One of the relatives, Ibrahim Musa, said the kidnappers contacted the families, insisting the ransom must be paid for every victim, regardless of age or gender.
Mr Musa said families of the victims pleaded with the abductors, explaining that they were villagers who could not afford the amount demanded. He added that many of those abducted were teenagers, making it difficult for their parents to raise the money.
