Six siblings, including a four-month-old baby, have been killed in a night fire outbreak near the old Mangu market in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The victims, aged between four months and 12 years, were members of the same family, according to relatives.
An uncle of the children, Umar Basbangida Aliyu, said the fire started around 2am on Thursday. He explained that the children’s mother sustained serious injuries while attempting to rescue them and is currently receiving treatment at Allah Nakowa Hospital in Mangu town.
Aliyu said the family could not immediately determine the cause of the fire, although there was electricity supply before they went to bed. He said the mother and her children had been watching television earlier in the night before the incident occurred.
