Police bust child trafficking syndicate in Anambra, rescue 33 girls

Police Rescue 11 of 18 Kidnapped Travellers On Benin–Akure Highway

The Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating from a compound in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, rescuing at least 33 underage girls. The operation followed investigations into cases of kidnapping, abduction, missing children and child trafficking in the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the raid led to the rescue of three children who were abducted in Ebonyi State on September 26, 2025, and taken to an unknown location.

He said operatives attached to the Anambra State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu carried out the operation after intelligence reports linked the premises to ongoing trafficking activities.
