The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, says Benin Republic, Togo and Niger owe Nigeria 11.57 million dollars for electricity supplied to them in the third quarter of 2025.
In its Q3 2025 report, the commission said electricity generation companies issued invoices totalling 18.69 million dollars to the three countries, but only 7.12 million dollars was paid, representing a remittance performance of just over 38 percent.
NERC identified the international customers as Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo, Société Béninoise d’Énergie Électrique, and Société Nigérienne d’Électricité, all supplied under bilateral power agreements within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

The commission added that while domestic bilateral customers paid 3.19 billion naira out of 3.64 billion naira billed, Ajaokuta Steel Company and its host community made no payment on invoices exceeding 1.1 billion naira, a situation NERC says it has escalated to relevant federal authorities.
