The Confederation of African Football has opened an investigation into the conduct of some Algerian players and officials following their quarter-final defeat to Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria beat Algeria 2–0 at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on Saturday, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams in a largely one-sided match. After the final whistle, Algerian players confronted the match officials, accusing the referee, Senegalese official Issa Sy, and his team of influencing the outcome.
CAF said the confrontation escalated into an on-field brawl involving players from both teams, forcing officials to escort the referees off the pitch for their safety. The disturbance reportedly continued in the technical area, where some Algerian players were seen pushing and throwing punches.

In a statement, CAF confirmed the incident had been referred to its disciplinary board, adding that appropriate action would be taken if those involved were found guilty. The football body also said it would investigate a separate quarter-final match between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as an alleged incident involving members of the media in the mixed zone.
